Antique Japanese two-part tansu chest circa late 19th century with hand etched metal hardware and side handle locks. An exquisite example of Japanese traditional lightweight mobile cabinetry, this tansu has a deep, rich red finish that is distinguished by contrasting patinated dark metal handles. When stacked, four drawers open up to raw interior store perfect for holding clothing and other personal effects. An additional small door conceals two smaller drawers at the bottom.
When stacked, the chests measure 41" T x 31.75" W x 17.5" D. On their own, each chest measures 20.5" T.
In beautiful antique condition. Significant wear, scratching, and hallmarks of time all commensurate with age and use. We make every effort to photograph any visible wear, which only adds to an item's rich character.
